Avant-Première "Rock 'N Roll... Of Corse" @ Publicis
+ Padovani & Friends @ Divan du Monde, Paris, 19 Fev 2016
Feat. Mini Vague, The Jones, Glen Matlock, The Flying Padovanis

 Axl Bauer, Little Bob

 Glen Matlock

First part of the evening was the premiere @ the Publicis on the Champs Elysées of the Movie "Rock 'n Roll Of course" with different guests in the audience including Glen Matlock.
Nice movie telling the story of the first Guitar player in the Police ( before Summers), he then join Wayne County, had a short stint with Glen with Nick Kent who was supposed to be the singer but bow out before their first show @ Scala...
The Flying Padovanis played one song after the movie and everybody was told to go to the Divan du Monde for the concert.
Second part of the evening in Pigalle for the proper concert: 2 french bands opened the show ( Mini-Vague & The Jones) then Glen played an acoustic set ( 6 songs: ? , Blank generation, ?, God save, Stepping Stone, Pretty vacant) and The Flying Padovanis (with the drummer from The Pretty Things) closed the evening with an instrumental set.

"On the road again" Feat. Henry Padovani, Dick Taylor @ Divan du Monde, Paris March 24 2014

"On the road again" @ Divan du Monde, Paris March 24 2014

free show, invit' only

Feat. Henry Padovani, Dick Taylor, Roya Arab & Kathy Mendonca

Concert exclusif "On the Road Again" !

on verra lundi soir
Hard to believe what I saw tonight, it's a free show and it's loaded with people, the balcony is closed, only for VIP's, people are having a blast.... What ?!?
First song is Canned Heat's "On the road again" that's the name of the band/reality-tv-show sponsored by a American Car brand that I won't name. The concept behind this band : take the musicians who left their band before  it became successful and make a "super-group" out of it. With rehearsals recorded and etc... for a reality show on French TV.
By listening to the first song , easy to hear that the band should have rehearsed a bit more, then they are playing a few more covers (Beatles, Lou Reed's "Vicious" , The Doors). 6-7 songs in all including a second version of "On the road again". Everything is recorded for that TV show.
The drum parts are kept to a minimum (not a great drummer, specially after seeing Carmine Appice in the very same club one week before) and the singer is lousy.
No disrespect to Henry Padovani (who I saw playing with his own band @ Gibus) and Dick Taylor (who I saw with the Pretty Things) and both band were great but the guys are probably desperate for cash for playing in such a reality show-band like this.
I've seen cover bands in bars much better than this.
Luckily there are some pretty girls in the audience , the only satisfying point that evening.
This is ridiculous and embarrassing. What went through their heads ?

Vanilla Fudge @ Divan du Monde, Paris March 14 2014

Vanilla Fudge @ Divan du Monde, Paris March 14 2014

Not a lot of people on this friday night, around 300, the balcony is closed. Early start as the band is on stage at 8:15 sharp.Nice start with a slow and long version of The Beatles' "Ticket to ride".  Great sound, not too loud.
As you can guess the entire set consists of almost only cover songs as Vanilla Fudge were famous and had hit records but never with their own songs. The guys know how to play, technically it's perfect. The musicianship is very high. Mark Stein still has a fantastic voice.
Carmine is a monster on drums always doing the right thing, very demonstrative but not overplaying.  Maybe the low point of the show is the arrangement of the songs that is sounding very dated, typically the kind of things from the late 60's-early 70's. with lots of breaks and instumental parts
Now I know why Led Zeppelin became so successful and Vanilla Fudge just vanish after a few records specially after hearing their version of "Dazed & Confused" wich was technically perfect but lacking "feeling".
Overall good gig but it could have been so much better.
The whole band went to the merchandise table to sign anything you wanted and were VERY nice with everybody, which is very rare nowadays. So a big "Thank you" to them.

Royal Republic + Blackfeet Revolution + Sleepers @ Divan du Monde , Paris Dec 22 2012

Royal Republic + Blackfeet Revolution + Sleepers@ Divan du Monde , Paris Dec 22 2012
Sleepers

Blackfeet Revolution

Royal Republic
Last show of the year 2012 for ROCKERPARIS, Oui Fm and "Bring the noise" last free show @ Divan du Monde in Pigalle.
It's packed with lots of yougsters.
First band is Sleepers from Bordeaux, cool hard-core/Stoner French band. Nice heavy set.

Next is Blackfeet Revolution, a duet: a guy on drums and another one on guitar /Vocals, heavy bluesy band, Black Keys wanabee: fuckin' ridiculous but the kids love it, I guess they don't know how to recognize a proper blues-rock band from a shitty mama's boys band that's trying everything to look and sound cool but which is not.

Last is Royal Republic, a Swedish heavy Metal band another uninspired and useless band with some skills but no talent at all.
Once again the kids love it.
We left before the end.

PS: Congratulations to the Divan du Monde sound engineer , each band had a terrific sound, greasy and not too loud. It was PERFECT, too bad the bands were not up to the level of the sound.
